2 Day Algonquin Park Photography Workshop

Discover the beauty of Ontario's wildlife through a lens! Spend 2 days and 2 nights in Algonquin Park learning wildlife photography techniques from experienced industry professionals!

Algonquin Provincial Park is a wilderness wonderland one and a half times the size of Canada's smallest province.  It was the first provincial park in Ontario and Algonquin is so diverse that it offers something for nearly everyone. The park is home to over 45 mammals, over 30 kinds of reptiles and amphibians and more than 130 breeding birds.  What's more, Algonquin is unequalled in Ontario, perhaps even in North America, as a location for seeing Moose.

This Experience takes place in the area of the Highway 60 Corridor, one of the best places in the park for wildlife viewing; indeed, more Moose are seen each year right along Highway 60 than in all of the backcountry. This is because some animals (particularly Moose) are actually attracted to the highway at certain times of the year. Algonquin offers 7,725 sq km of semi-wilderness, complete with forests, hundreds of lakes, rivers and hiking trails.  It's scenery is famous as the backdrop for many 'Group of Seven' artists paintings and very popular with landscape photographers and artists.

Workshop Overview:

Arrive late afternoon/early evening, when you'll be met by your workshop leader who will go over the schedule and check you into your accommodations.

Day 1: You will join your group early in the morning and be at a stunning location for sunrise when you can take advantage of the beautiful light, mist and reflections in the water. For the rest of the day your instructor will take you to some of the best wildlife viewing locations in the park where they will provide instruction on the basics of your camera functions and how to apply them in the field. You'll learn to understand aperture, shutter speed and ISO and how they work together and what each one does to your image. You'll also learn how to create pleasing backgrounds to make your subject stand out.
You will hike one of the shorter trails in the park which is suitable for all activity levels, looking for more species and landscape opportunities before heading to another location for sunset. After this full-day we will stop at a local restaurant for dinner and return to our accommodations.

Day 2: Once again, it's an early start to capture sunrise at a beautiful lake in the park and a chance to visit more of the prime areas for Moose and other wildlife. In the afternoon we'll stop for lunch and time to see the gallery and visitor's centre. After that you will explore some of the logging roads for more animal encounters and the workshop will conclude after another sunset session.
