Dog Sledding

Now Open!!!

Experience an unforgettable dog sledding tour at our facilities near Orillia, Ontario, less than two hours from downtown Toronto!

Upon arrival at the kennel you'll make you way to our heated reception building, where your dog sledding experience will begin with your guide providing an orientation session covering the dogs, the sleds, the trails and important safety issues. Immediately following this you'll be introduced to your six dog team and everyone gets involved in harnessing the dogs and hooking up the teams to the sleds...and then it is off to the trails for your dog sledding experience! The excitement of the dogs is contagious and when all is set to go, the dogs pull and lunge against their harnesses waiting for your command, "Ready! Let's Go!

The scenery along the trail is truly awesome, and dog sledding provides many great opportunities for sightings of the variety of animals and birds that make this area their home. Expeditions follow private prepared trails which are chosen to make your first experience of dog sledding as much fun as possible.

Your dog sledding experience will conclude with hot beverages awaiting you upon your return to the kennel!

Things to Remember

VERY IMPORTANT - This Experience requires a minimum of two full paying participants per sled, therefore children 6 and under must be accompanied by two full paying participants on the same sled.

Extra child spaces (for children 6 and under) may be purchased for $50 plus HST by calling 1 888 WOW DAYS (969 3297).

Odd numbers of participants are permitted, but the extra person will participate on the guide's sled.

Depending on conditions and other factors on the day, the guide may decide that one participant (including children) must ride on the guide's sled. The guide's decision in this matter is final.

A waiver of liability and confidential health questionnaire must be read and signed before participation.

Recommended Clothing

Dress warm! You'll need good gloves, winter boots and snowpants. Boots should be flat soled with grip (no high heels) and gloves should not contain rubber or plastic as they may freeze.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How long are the Experiences?
A. The Half Day Trip lasts up to 3 hours and the Full Day lasts up to 5 hours (including orientation). The actual duration will depend on the trail conditions on the day and so may be shorter. However, the distance traveled will be the same.

Q. Do I get to mush (drive) the dogs?
A. Yes. You and your partner can alternate between riding in the sled and driving the dogs. This is a fully interactive experience.

Q. What is the minimum age for driving the dogs?
A. The minimum age to take control of a sled is 16, although passengers as young as 2 are welcome to ride along with an adult.

Q. What breed of dogs do you have?
A. The majority of our dogs are Alaskan Huskies as they are better suited to the local climate than Siberian Huskies.

Q. What's the terrain like?
A. Private open fields and scenic woodland trails.

Other Important Information

The dogs housed at the kennel are primarily Alaskan Huskies. This is because Alaskans do not have the long coats of Siberian Huskies and as such are more suited to the local climate. Believe it or not, the climate here in Southern Ontario rarely stays consistently cold enough for Siberian Huskies and as such they can overheat when pulling a sled. The dogs are 'canine athletes' that just love to pull sleds. What's more, they love the winter and will spend most nights sleeping outside of their shelters! The kennel receives annual inspections by the OSPCA, and whilst no official ranking system exists the kennel is often deemed to be the best in Ontario. These may be working dogs, but they're also part of the family.

Maximum Participants: 12
Spectators Allowed? No

We are sometimes able to accommodate groups larger than 12. Please call us toll free at 1 888 WOW DAYS (969 3297) to discuss your group's particular needs.
