For nearly three decades jet boats have been playing in the turbulent rapids of the mighty St. Lawrence River right in downtown Montreal. Waves 10 feet high give visitors a unique appreciation for what the early French explorers confronted in these raging rapids hundreds of years before. Montreal, as a city, was founded at the base of these rapids by Jacques Cartier on his way to “la Chine” (China) over 460 years ago. During the Victorian era large steamships carried passengers through the rapids but the service was discontinued when boat travel was no longer economical.

Now 80 years after the last steamboat was retired, visitors and locals alike are once again lining up to ride the wild Lachine waters. Jet boating the Lachine Rapids can easily lay claim to being the world’s most exciting city boat tour!

For 30 solid minutes of the 1 hour tour, the high powered aluminium boats crash through the thundering waves, run the rapids and to the delight of the crowd, turn around and do it again.

Things to Remember

Passengers always receive a life jacket, poncho and a set of wet suit booties (no need to get your shoes wet). Participants should be in good health and not suffering from any neck or back problems. Pregnant women are not advised to participate. A small fuel surcharge will be payable on the day of the tour.
